I started with a Commodore 64 and Amiga, then spent a good part of my teenage years taking PCs apart, repairing them, upgrading them and occasionally finding out why they no longer booted. I eventually ran a small PC repair shop and later published BIOS-editing and flashing utilities of my own.

Computers remained the obsession; engineering became the profession. My background is in electrical engineering, with a PhD and professional work spanning embedded systems, firmware, electronics, C/C++, hardware bring-up, and test and measurement.

PC Tech Vault is where those two sides meet. I built it for the kind of PC hardware coverage I like to read myself: specifications that can actually be checked, useful comparison tools, price data with context, technical reporting that goes beyond a press release, and the occasional trip back to the hardware and games many of us grew up with.
