An Unnamed x86 CPU Has Run Legacy-Free for a Year

Three stacked slabs for the operating modes an x86-64 CPU normally provides. Legacy Mode and Compatibility Mode are drawn hollow and crossed out at the bottom because the implementation described on the Linux kernel mailing list removes both, and 64-bit mode is filled in blue at the top because it is the only mode kept.

A request to document 64-bit-only behaviour for the Linux kernel describes an x86 part that dropped the modes Intel decided to keep, and says it has been in service for over a year.

Zen 6 Kernel Patches Put Numbers on a Third Core Type
